Today’s quote comes from the movie Groundhog Day, where Phil (played by Bill Murray) experiences the same exact day over and over again. If you haven’t seen this movie, I’d highly recommend it. One of my favorite quotes is when Bill Murray says:
“Well, what if there is no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today.”Phil (Bill Murray), Groundhog Day
Far too often we take life for granted and spend our time on things that don’t matter. Imagine if today is the last day of your life; what would you do differently? What decisions would you make? Who would you spend time with?
Thinking of each day as our last can help us eliminate the things in life that hold us back. This paradigm can also lead us to improve our relationships and increase our focus on the things that bring us happiness.
I believe this way of thinking can also help us as we build our respective businesses. Imagine that tomorrow your business vanishes from the face of the Earth – will your customers notice? What would their reaction be? Would they care? Cry? Shout for joy?
If you imagine your customers not being devastated at the disappearance of your company, you’ve got work to do. Heck, we all do!
None of us are guaranteed a “tomorrow”. So, make the most of today.
