Today marks the end of week one of the Amazon business my wife and I started. And boy was it a crazy one!
We’ve been toying with the idea of starting an Amazon business over the past few months, and I finally persuaded my wife to start one with me. Now, you might be asking, “Why didn’t you just start the business yourself?”, and that’s a great question. The truth is, I need a team around me to encourage me to work hard. I thrive when I’m held accountable to goals I set and tasks I choose to do. Having my wife on board with me increases the likelihood of the business succeeding in the long term – which is what both of us desire.
I think this week ended up being the right week to start the business because the opportunity met a breaking point at work for my wife. She’s mentioned me on numerous occasions how she feels that she just doesn’t have time to do the things she enjoys, such as reading, exercising, cooking healthy meals, and spending time with family.
With me being in school full-time and her working full-time, we have felt stretched and stressed – it happens when there are more things you want to do than you have time for.
So, what did we do? We came up with a plan… to stretch ourselves even thinner by starting an online business. I know, quite the solution, right?
And even though our time now is even more limited, we get to pursue our own venture that will lead to us creating our own schedules. Our desire is to create a lifestyle that feels more free, more liberated. Yes, we want to travel more, work out more, and spend more time with family. But we also just want to feel that we have control over our lives.
I know that what I’m talking about – having control and freedom – comes partially from mindset. But it also comes from creating the right environment. And using Amazon’s FBA services to sell products felt like a natural step in the direction of greater freedom and happiness.
Now, you might also ask, how did you just start? Like aren’t there things you have to know and do to start an Amazon business?
And those are both excellent questions with the answer of “yes”. Starting an Amazon FBA business isn’t easy; one has to navigate Amazon’s Seller Central, find profitable products, then figure out how everything works. It’s quite the process.
Luckily for me, I work with an Internet Business Coaching company that teaches every day people how to start selling online through Amazon. I’ve worked at this company for 10 months, learning all I can about selling online. Not only have I learned how to succeed at selling on Amazon, but I’ve also learned principles of affiliate marketing and selling profitably on eBay. Overall, I’ve learned how to harness the power of the Internet and leverage my passions and interests to generate income online.
I simply have a massive passion for and interest in e-commerce and am making it my life.
And now I get to pursue my passion with the woman I love.
Life seriously couldn’t get any better.

We sold a book that my wife bought a few months back and didn’t like. I listed it as merchant fulfilled, meaning we would take care of shipping, and it sold within 24 hours. Here’s the screenshot of our seller account after making our first sale:
I realize it was only $7.29, but it felt awesome. It also feels awesome to make sales on Shopify, eBay, or any other business that you’ve put time and effort into.
I’m looking forward to these next few months of building up our inventory and increasing our sales. I’ll continue to provide updates on our progress, while also hopefully sharing some valuable nuggets of information to help you start or improve your Amazon business.
